Successful Grand Opening of The Village at Lake Bell
For IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SMALLTOWN, TX (March 29, 2023) - Communities of Hope, one of the nation's largest owner-operators of manufactured home communities and RV resorts, is pleased to announce the successful grand opening of The Village at Lake Bell on Sunday, March 26th. The event drew an enthusiastic crowd of prospective residents to preview the model homes and the curated active adult lifestyle offered in this new community.
During the grand opening, visitors toured six fully furnished models and newly available homes for purchase. The event featured planned activities, such as prize giveaways, a barbecue lunch catered by Mikey's Barbecue Pit - Horseman Road, cookies by Cookie Crumbles, and a raffle. As a token of appreciation, the first 50 guests received gift bags and had the opportunity to have their photos taken in the 309 Photobooth.
The turnout for the event exceeded expectations, attracting a diverse range of potential residents interested in the beautiful, energy-efficient homes and the array of amenities offered at The Village. Communities of Hope extends heartfelt thanks to all local vendors who helped make this event possible, particularly Tim Forest from Mikey’s Barbecue Pit, who went above and beyond to provide additional food when more guests than anticipated attended the event.
"We are delighted with the overwhelmingly positive response from the community and the fantastic turnout at our grand opening event," said Henry Fields, Senior Vice President, Sales & Marketing for Communities of Hope. "The Village at Lake Bell is truly a one-of-a-kind community, and we are excited to see it flourish as we welcome new residents."
Prospective buyers were wowed by the beautifully decorated model homes and the new approach to life that this community will offer to their active adult residents of The Village at Lake Bell. This gated, active adult community offers exclusive amenities, including a heated lap pool, fitness center, clubhouse, ballroom, pickleball courts, and bocce ball courts. The full-time Lifestyle Director will coordinate programming for the active adult village, such as pickleball tournaments, water aerobics, organized hikes, and other events.
"We are excited to settle in this nice community and make Texas our home! We love our new house, it has lots of storage and style. Can't wait to decorate it!" said Bill and Bonnie Eble, new owners and Founders' Club members.
The model park located in the active adult village remains open daily for viewing. VIMSIA students collaborate with visual artist Gerard Pefung to complete a mural on campus.
Pefung is a Cameroonian-born, Brooklyn-based visual artist who showcases original art and ideas inspired by the history of hip-hop and the rich culture of Africa. VIMSIA approached Pefung while he was creating another mural on island. Visual Art teacher Sarah Cornette, with the support of VIMSIA, invited him to work with the 11th-grade students to develop a mural highlighting Virgin Islands culture.  Students Sy Sebastian, Yashamay David, and James Walgenwitt worked extensively with Cornette and Pefung to create symbols of their personal history and Caribbean traditions.
The entire 11th-grade class created drawings for the project, which folded into the final image; from cruise ships to fish to the VI flag, the wall bursts with vibrant color and movement.
"The design phase was my favorite. It allowed us to share our ideas and collaborate with each other to make one cohesive piece. In this phase, we got to learn more about one another and what parts of our culture were most significant. In the end, we got to incorporate something important that represented us, and I chose a Moko Jumbie," said Sebastian.
Walgenwitt says, "I hope when a person comes across the mural, it's inviting to everyone and helps convey all the great parts of the islands and our culture."
The students also wanted to include their pressing environmental concerns, represented by a plastic bag and bottle on the seafloor. The mural's location is significant to the project, as it is right in the heart of VIMSIA's campus.  Everyone and anyone who walked by was invited to participate in the painting, including elementary students and staff members.
"The more people who have a hand in creating the mural, the more joy our whole community will receive from it," said Cornette, who has led community-created murals worldwide.

VIMSIA Students Honor Veterans with Song

Tuesday, November 10th, 2020
Virgin Islands Montessori School students in Ms. Joie Byrd’s music classes perform “Thank You to Our Veterans.” Her students worked throughout the past few weeks to learn and perform the song within their pods. These students are in the Primary and Elementary programs and range from ages 3 through twelve.
In honor of Veterans Day tomorrow, her students have prepared "Thank You to Our Veterans." To work within our social distancing policies, she filmed each group's performance and edited them together for the final product.
Ms. Byrd is not only our music teacher; she also serves as Staff Sergeant Byrd in the Virgin Islands National Guard 73rd Army Band.
“Last month, when we began preparing this song, I asked our students if they knew anyone who had served in the military. Hands were raised excitedly as students took turns sharing about their family members who have served. Seeing the pride on the students' faces and hearing the voices of 90 students singing together made this tribute especially special,” said Bryd.
